A Trip to Kansas City & My Birthday!

Last weekend the Hubs and I decided to take a little trip! We don't do this often so I was really excited to spend some extra time with him. We love to watch shows like Dinners, Drive In's and Dives, Bizarre Foods and Man vs. Food. We found Strouds in Kansas City through the show Man vs. Food and we had to try it...so we did! Best fried chicken EVER and don't even get me started on the cinnamon buns.
I follow Kinfold on Instagram and I have always wanted to see one of their books and I got to in Kansas City at Anthropology!
Best fried chicken Ever, it was so amazing and if you go to the original restaurant it's in a cute old farm house!

How amazing are these dishes! I wanted every single one of them, the bee plate is my favorite!

I so wish I had enough money to buy everything in this store...

Birthday Starbucks! The guy even drew balloons and a birthday cake!

I also love jelly beans so I treated myself to some Jelly Bellies!

We tried a local food truck called London Calling...I am not sure what to think about it. I enjoyed it but I was expecting better.

Look at this handsome guy!

We also got to eat lunch in a double decker bus, which was really the cool part!

Inside the double decker bus taking a birthday/couple selfie!

Olive Garden dinner selfie!

I had a wonderful birthday, which really started out horrible but ended up being a great day. I am sitting at the apartment drinking cinnamon hot chocolate and watching Harry Potter while baking fresh bread. I have a feeling today will be a good day.

What is your favorite thing to do for yourself on your birthday?

Family Portrait & A French Press

Hello friends! This week has been busy, we didn't have school Monday and these short weeks seem to last FOREVER. I have been subbing and I really enjoy it, it's a lot of work but I love it. I got my first nice paycheck yesterday since last January. It has been hard living on one income but the Lord really has provided for us and I am SO grateful. Today I took this picture in the car and I love it. Zeus is chillin in the back and the Hubs looks so good.

We went shopping last week for fun and the Hubs got me a French Press! I had never used one before and I will never go back to making coffee any other way! I LOVE THIS THING! The coffee is creamy and just wonderful.

I got a new coffee device so of course I have to get me some new coffee! Yay Starbucks!

This next week is my birthday and I really want this book on Classroom Management. I looked through it and it was Amazing! So many good things going on in this book.

I am excited to get started back to teaching after winter break and enjoying my new coffee press. What is your favorite coffee brand? Maybe I will give it a try :)

Lately

Lately I have been waiting for work. Last week the kids were back to school and I did not get called to sub so I spent my time finishing my resume, applying for jobs and cleaning the apartment and I got so much done!

Zeus helped me clean all week of course...or just laid around and pretended to be Bat Dog

So my birthday is coming up....and I would like this book shown above. The Classroom Management Book by Henry Wong

I also tried this new hair style with a braid crown almost. It turned out pretty good and I liked it. The Hubs also looks pretty handsome to me :)

Chicken Tikka Masala and Nan. I can't get enough of this stuff. The Hubs and I kind of, sort of, went on a lunch date but the food was great and better than being out in the cold, rainy weather.

I have been trying to keep as busy as possible the past couple of weeks. I am doing really well on my no soda goal for January! It will be super hard in February to give up sweet tea...The weather is finally looking up here in Missouri with temps getting into the 50's this weekend! YAY! I hope the weather gets warmer where you are!

Student Teaching: Tips & Tricks

Student Teaching is over and I have learned so much that I want to share some of the things I learned with you!
  1. Be prepared: for me this included a binder with tons of sections including; Calendar, Tips & Tricks, Lesson Plans, To Do, Common Core Standards, Team Meetings and that was most of them. I have the pictures below and I got the backgrounds from Teachers Pay Teachers for free!

My lessons section ended up being my notes from the lessons I taught and any free stuff I got from my teacher.

I made this team meeting notes section after I finished student teaching but it would have been a big help if I had used it all semester.

2. Eat healthy: Most teachers already do this and you will notice that right away. I say this because you will run out of energy fast if you don't eat healthy and drink lots of water. You will also snack through out the day so make sure they are healthy snacks!

3. You will get sick: I Never used to get sick and I lost my voice twice this past fall semester! I had a cough and runny nose for weeks. It was not fun...so take your vitamins! I thought it couldn't happen to me and it did...

4. Use Planbook!: I love planbook so much and it keeps your lesson plans and ideas for years! So you can look back later to see what you did. You get one FREE month and then it just costs a $1 every month after that! So cheap and I used it all the time.

5. Keep a Diary: I actually did not write in mine a lot but when I had a rough day it was good to get my thoughts down on paper. I did keep an extra notebook that I kept TONS of notes in.

6. Attitude is Everything: Go in with a good attitude everyday and watch how your class changes. Kids pick up on your attitude and how you are feeling. It's amazing and I don't know how they do it but if you are having a bad day, the kids will pick up on it.

7. That one teacher: There will always be that 1 teacher who has a bad attitude...that person will be negative and grouchy and you most likely won't know why. DON'T talk about this person to anyone at the school. Write it down in a notebook or talk to 1 trusted friend.

8. HAVE FUN: This experience fly's by so fast! I could not believe when my last day came and I had to leave my kids (Yes, they will become your kids and you will care about them so much!). Don't worry about the little things along the way and enjoy yourself. Be open to new things and write down things you like and things you could improve on.

I have tons of other teaching thoughts and such so there will be more to come. Here are a few other blogs and sites that have Great student teaching advice!

I hope these few extra tips help you out! Let me know if you have any advice I should add!

2015 Goals

2014 was a great year and I honestly can't wait for 2015. I feel like this year will be a big deal and our lives will change a lot. I am planning on getting a teaching job and when that happens we can move! Instead of New Years resolutions I decided to do Goals. I feel that goals are really important and easier to follow than resolutions. I hope you all had a great year and I am excited to see what happens in your next year as well as mine!
